VT0035 : SMILE Lenticule Assisted Modified Technique of Ahmed Glaucoma Valve Implantation and Repair.

Abstract

This two-part surgical video demonstrates an innovative approach to glaucoma drainage device implantation, utilizing corneal stromal lenticules sourced from Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) surgery as graft material. Part one of the video showcases the implantation of a new Ahmed Glaucoma Valve (AGV) with a unique emphasis on the grafting technique. The second part is dedicated to repairing an inferior tube exposure, utilizing corneal stromal lenticules for grafting.

Decreased dependence on traditional graft material, easier tissue handling, lack of epithelial/uveal tissue remnants, lesser risk of contamination, potentially lower chances of retraction, better patient comfort and cosmesis are some of the various advantages noted of using this technique. This novel technique showcases the remarkable potential of utilizing corneal stromal lenticules from SMILE surgery in the realm of glaucoma management, pushing the boundaries of ophthalmic surgical innovation.
