VT0325 : Phacoemulsification in Lens coloboma with cataract: A challenging situation

Abstract

25 years old male presented with bilateral congenital lens coloboma inferiorly with congenital cataract with typical iris coloboma. His visual acuity was 20/200 in both eyes due to tilted lens and cataract. Phacoemulsification with 3 piece Intraocular lens was implanted with keeping the haptics away from the coloboma. The intraocular lens was stable in the bag due to round and small capsulorrehxix. Postoperatively, patient gained visual acuity of 20/30 without any other visual symptoms. Lens coloboma with cataract can be nicely managed simply by phacoemulsification without the need of lensectomy and vitrectomy in presence of normal posterior segment.
