FP0905 : Seeing the unseen world – Role of vision therapy in improving quality of vision and life

Abstract

The visual development of a child is an enigma. Vision therapy is a methodical approach in improving binocular single vision(BSV) beyond correcting amblyopia. It is customized approach of improving the magnitude and quality of vision chronic ametropes. Study design : Prospective Observational study. Purpose: To understand the role of vision therapy in correcting amblyopia beyond improvement of BSV. Methods: Patients with amblyopia are included. A proforma with various orthoptic parameters is employed. Patients are started on vision therapy as indicated. Continuous home exercises & periodical follow up is advised. Results: Totally, 33 patients were included. The mean age was 11.4 years. 91.3% patients showed improvement in BCVA (>2 lines). Near points of convergence and accommodation improved in 87.8%. Stereopsis improved in 98.2% . Conclusion: Vision therapy, besides improving BSV, corrects amblyopia and overall quality of life.
