FP0900 : Hemostasis with Fibrin Glue in Surgery for PDR: Preliminary findings of a randomized trial

Abstract

Study Design: Randomized control trial
Purpose: To evaluate safety and efficacy of fibrin glue (FG) in controlling bleeders during surgery for PDR
Methods: Eyes being operated for sequalae of PDR without RD >5DD areas were included. Those with retinal breaks were excluded. Following routine surgery, bleeders within the macula and proximal to disc were identified after dropping infusion to 10mmHg. Bleeders of cases were treated with application of FG. Main outcome measure was extent of bleeding at 1 week.

Results: Preliminary findings of first 3 consecutive cases followed up till 3 months are presented. All were operated for vitreous haemorrhage and FG was injected over the optic disc to control disc bleeds. No case had vitreous cavity bleed on Day 7. One patient developed extramacular membrane, while no eye developed a recurrent bleed or had unexplained vision loss.

Conclusion: Findings show safety and likely efficacy of FG in hemostasis in surgery for PDR.
