Abstract
Paralysis of the upper eyelid secondary to facial nerve damage leads to lagophthalmos, which results in incomplete closure of the eyelids over the cornea, leading to potential complication of ocular surface disorders and eventual blindness. Various implants are used to treat paralytic lagophthalmos. Implantation of weights in the upper eyelid for the gravity assisted closure of lid is a popularly used procedure with various advantages like complete closure of the eyelid without hampering of vision, less surgical learning curve, reversibility, and it can also be combined with other lid procedures. This method using Gold weight eyelid implant as the most accepted material ,is beneficial for both irreversible and reversible facial nerve paralysis, giving medium and long term management. In this video we demonstrate the surgical procedure using gold weight eyelid implant for management of a patient from north east india with paralytic lagophthalmos of right eye due to facial nerve palsy.
