Abstract
Study design: Prospective comparative study
Purpose: To compare the reduction in IOP, and number of anti-glaucoma medications (AGM) & quantify success in eyes undergoing excisional goniotomy using the Kahook Dual Blade (KDB) & Bent Ab Interno Needle Goniotomy (BANG) with mild to moderate open-angle glaucomas.
Method: IOP & the number of AGMs used were recorded at baseline and 1 week, 1 & 3 months postoperatively. Primary outcomes were reductions in IOP & AGM; the secondary outcome was to quantify success as complete & qualified in each group.
Results: 50 eyes were analysed (25 in each group). Baseline IOP was 17.28 ± 5.72 mmHg in BANG and 19.83 ± 6.34 mmHg in the KDB group. The mean reduction of IOP was -1.58 ± 1.80 mmHg with BANG Phaco group and -2.83 ± 3.10 mmHg with KDB Phaco group. The mean reduction in AGM was -0.79 ± 0.10 in the BANG Phaco group and -1 ± 0.53 in the KDB Phaco group. BANG group achieved a complete success of 86% while KDB achieved 100 % at post-op 1 month.
