FP0402 : Study of green LASER in fungal corneal ulcer

Abstract

Objective: To study the use of green LASER in fungal corneal ulcer. Methods: Experimental study in corneal scrapping/ corneal button in therapeutic keratoplasty cases, received in ocular pathology laboratory in a tertiary institute of north-east India. Green Laser, from a Class III Laser product. Complies with 21 CFR, Wavelength 532 nm were used in laboratory set up under the objective of compound microscope (Zeiss, Axioskop 40, Germany). Results: In 2 years study, total 15 cases of mycotic corneal ulcers were studied. Different fungus such as Aspergillus (n=5), Fusarium (n=4), Curvularia (n=4) and penicillium (n=2) were studied with green laser in raw specimen augmented with fluorescein stains in some of the specimens. The results were compared with conventional staining. Conclusion: Different fungus were identified by using the Laser with their morphological structures. Laser study of fungus in experimental cases were first of its kind by using ordinary compound microscope.
