Abstract
Cataract surgery is a “low-risk, fast and effective” surgical procedure. Commonly acknowledged serious adverse events after cataract surgery include endophthalmitis and retinal detachment, but post-cataract-surgery optic neuropathy [hereafter referred to as post-cataract-surgery non-arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy (PCNAION)] is rare and often not mentioned. Here we report a rare case of a 59- year-old hypertensive male having raised levels of homocysteine presenting with NAION within 3 weeks of an uneventful cataract surgery.
