FP0515 : Donor Profile in a newly established Eye Bank of a Government Medical College in Eastern India

Abstract

Study Design: A retrospective, observational study on the basis on previous records from Apr 2022 to Sep 2023.
Purpose: To analyze the donor profile, its procurement pattern, and utilisation during the initial phase of the eye banking.
Methods: Records from 104 corneal donors were assessed retrospectively, considering the parameters such as donor demographics, cause of death, consent providers, tissue suitability for transplantation surgeries, and usage.
Results: A total of 207 corneas were procured from 104 donors, with mean age 71.3yrs (range 25-92) with 54% males and 46% females. The predominant cause of death were cardiovascular complications 58% and CVA 18%.Consent was provided by offspring 76%,siblings 6%,spouse 9% & others 9%. Mean Death to retrieval time: 03hrs 37mins. Tissue usage 38.5% for OptPK,17% for TPK, 2% for DALK. 42.5% not suitable for human use.
Conclusion: The eye bank demonstrated a promising beginning with a notable number of corneal procurements and utilization.
