Abstract

Study Design: Retrospective
Purpose:To compare the results of toric intraocular lens(IOL) and monofocal IOL implantation when the target refraction value is -2 diopter(D) in patients with corneal astigmatism >1.5D
Methods:80 patients(40 in each group)were enrolled.Near and distant uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA),corrected VA,spherical equivalent and refractive,corneal astigmatism were evaluated before and after surgery
Results:2 months postop,near and distant UCVA of the toric group(0.28 ±0.31&0.36 ± 0.13)was significantly better than that of the monofocal group(0.49 ± 0.34&0.56 ± 0.23)(p=0.030&0.026).Best-corrected VA(p=0.717)and mean spherical equivalent(p=0.458) did not show significant differences between the two groups.residual refractive astigmatism was significantly lower in toric group(p =0.001)
Conclusion:When myopic refraction such as -2D was the target power in patients with corneal astigmatism,toric IOL implantation led to excellent improvement in both near and distant UCVA
