FP0390 : Early complete regression of medium-sized choroidal melanoma after Iodine-125 plaque brachytherapy.

Abstract

Purpose: To report cases of medium sized choroidal melanoma treated with iodine-125 plaque brachytherapy and evaluate its efficacy in reduction of tumor size.
Study Design: Retrospective case series.
Results:3 patients diagnosed with medium sized choroidal melanoma were included in this retrospective study. Pre-plaque visual acuity ranged from 20/150 to light perception. 2 patients had only mass lesion at presentation and 1 patient had retinal detachment (RD). Pre-treatment apical height and basal width ranged from 4.2 to 6.3 mm and volume of the irregular area was 401.7- 974.7 mm3. Post-plaque tumor reduced to flat chorio-retinal scar in all eyes. 100% tumor regression occurred in mass lesions, 98% regression in lesion associated with RD. Radiation-induced cataracts occurred in all cases and 1 patient developed radiation retinopathy.
Conclusion: Iodine-125 plaque radiotherapy can give remarkable regression and decrease the tumor to flat chorio-retinal scar with 12 months of treatment.
