FP3080 : Topical Brinzolamide in post penetrating keratoplasty glaucoma

Abstract

Study Design: Prospective interventional
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of brinzolamide (carbonic hydrase inhibitors) on corneal endothelium in post penetrating keratoplasty (PK) glaucoma eyes
Methods: Patients with post PK glaucoma not controlled with antiglaucoma medications were recruited. The graft status, intraocular pressure (IOP), specular microscopy and central corneal thickness (CCT) based on anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) were noted at baseline, 3,6 and12 months.
Results: 21 eyes were included with baseline IOP 25.16±6.17 mm Hg and endothelial cell count (ECC) 1754.8±392.37 cells/mm2. After 1 year of brinzolamide therapy, mean IOP fell significantly (p=0.023) by 10.7 (95% CI: 5.82 to 15.58) mm Hg and the graft remained clear in all eyes. Mean ECC and CCT did not change significantly (p=0.28 and 0.46, respectively).
Conclusion: Topical brinzolamide did not have any impact on the corneal endothelium cell count in post corneal graft eyes.
