Abstract
In this prospective study 20 eyes of 10 patients underwent cataract surgery with Hoya Vivinex Gemetric IOL in one eye and Hoya Vivinex Gemetric Plus IOL in the other eye. Primary end points were binocular UDVA, intermediate vision (UCIVA) at 40cm, 60cm and 80 cm and UNVA. Defocus curves, contrast sensitivity with FACT CSV, reading speeds using Salzburg Reading Desk and aberrometry were assessed. At 2 weeks, all patients attained binocular UDVA of 20/20. At 80 cm, 60 cm and 40cm, average binocular UCIVA was 0.117±0.72, 0.057±0.97 and 0.971±0.12 LogMAR respectively. Binocular UNVA of >0.11 LogMAR units was recorded in all the patients. No patient reported of any significant haloes, glare or bothersome dysphotopsia. Hoya Vivinex Gemetric and Gemetric Plus IOLs when paired together by bilateral implantation appears to provide a continuous range of vision from distance, intermediate to near resulting in good patient satisfaction, spectacle independence and minimal photic phenomenon.
