FP2945 : “To capture or not?” – Surgeon vs patient’s perspective in paediatric posterior optic capture.

Abstract

A Prospective interventional study PURPOSE – To assess the challenges faced by surgeon while doing posterior optic capture in terms of the long learning curve, intraoperative time and comparing it to the final refractive outcomes, IOL stability and inflammation
METHODS – Study was carried out in 40 eyes of children with congenital/developmental cataract. Phacoaspiration was done in all followed by a 4-5mm PPCC and a 3-piece Acrylic IOL placed, haptics in sulcus and optic captured behind the PPCC.
RESULTS – It was found that the learning curve, though long was rewarding as the refractive status, stability were found to be within acceptable limits along the routine postoperative course. Few cases were abandoned due to various reasons like improper PPCC, high myopia, zonular dehiscence.
CONCLUSION – Posterior optic capture with haptics in sulcus can be the technique of choice for IOL implantation in paediatric patients given the advantage of lesser theoretical possibility of VAO.
