Abstract

One of the case histories, innovation, and surgery presented as video format
To evaluate the cost, safety, surgical outcome and efficacy of cutler beard eyelid reconstruction utilizing a novel silicone plate for tarsal plate replacement in the repair of 70-100% eyelid defects. Methods
Prospective, interventional case study of thirty patients over a period of eighteen months.Silicone plate obtained from a commercially available 279 scleral buckle was utilized. The created defect measured in percentage Pre and post-operative measurement of margin to reflex distance (MRD1)
Results
The follow-up period ranged from six months to two years. Pre-operative margin-to-reflex distanced (MRD1) ranged from -4 mm to -1 mm, while post-operative MRD1 was +3 to +4 mm.
Conclusions
The silicone is an inert, non-reacting, tissue tested material, thus eliminating the possibility of graft rejection.Silicone plate should be considered as a material of choice for tarsal plate replacement.
