Abstract
Objective- the aim of the study is to summaries the relationship between serum vitamin D3 & primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) in a cohort of patients.
Study design- hospital based observational case control study. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to examine the relationship between serum vitamin D3 & POAG after adjusting potential confounders.
Study population- 50 participants between age 40-50 (except postmenopausal women & thyroid disorder patients) were taken as control. Another 50 age & sex matched known cases of POAG patients were taken as cases.
Results- multivariable adjusted odds ratio of POAG & normal healthy individual is 2.9. P value is 0.00023. In addition, we discovered that the predictors for worsening POAG, such as IOP, vertical cup disc ratio, visual field changes & OCT RNFL had a significant relationship with 25(OH)D levels.
Conclusion- in this study, patients with glaucoma had lower serum vitamin D3 level as compared with normal subjects.
