Abstract
Aims: To investigate efficacy of intralesional triamcinolone inj for treatment of chalazion in children not responding to conservative treatment.
Methods: A retrospective case series of 14 pts under the age of 12 yrs receiving intralesional triamcinolone inj for primary chalazion, not responding to conservative treatment for more than 1 month.Triamcinolone inj were given at doses (40 mg/ml) titrated according to the size of lesion. Study end points were time to resolution and 50% reduction in size.
Results: 14 pts under 12 years age treated with intralesional triamcinolone acetonide inj.10 of chalazia achieved a 50% reduction in size in 2 weeks and 11 achieved complete resolution in 6 weeks. No complications were noted. 2 cases subsequently required incision and curettage, and 1 case received a second triamcinolone inj before complete resolution could be achieved.
Conclusion: Intralesional triamcinolone inj is a safe and effective OPD-based procedure for primary chalazion in children
