Abstract

retrospective interventional non comparative case series of patients who were diagnosed with acute dacryocystitis.
purpose : to analyse the clinical features and outcomes of external dcr in patients presented with acute dacryosystitis
method: a total of 70 patients presented with acute dacryocystitis over 8 years. There was female preponderance. mean age was 51.5+/- 3.3 years. no significant difference in laterality noted. all patients were treated with antibiotics. surgery attempted after complete resolution of symptoms. external dcr was done in all patients. intubation was used in most cases. with 6 months follow up the anatomical success rate was 92.8%and functional success of 88.6 %
conclusion :adequate control of inflammation, meticulous surgical method and appropriate use of adjuncts give excellent results.
