Abstract
STUDY DESIGN
A cross-sectional observational study was done for mature and hypermature cataracts.
PURPOSE
1. To study the socio-demographic profile of patients with unilateral and bilateral mature and hypermature cataracts.
2. Evaluation of reasons for late presentation at OPD at peripheral district hospital in Birbhum.
METHODOLOGY
A cross sectional observational study was done over 9 months from Dec22 to Aug23 in 210 adult patients with mature and hypermature cataracts who underwent detailed history taking comprising of sociodemographic details and reasons for delayed presentation and ocular examination was conducted. Data analysis was done and presented as mean, standard deviation, frequencies and percentage.

CONCLUSION
Unemployment, low socio-economic status, illiteracy, rural residency, limited caregivers and females were associated with late presentation for cataract treatment.
