FP0197 : Clinico-demographic profile & visual outcomes of pediatric traumatic cataract – a prospective study

Abstract

Purpose: To study the clinico-demographic profile and predictors of visual outcomes in patients with pediatric traumatic cataracts. Methodology: A prospective interventional study in children aged 3-15 years with traumatic cataracts was done and all relevant data were collected at presentation and subsequent follow-ups with a minimum 1-year follow-up. Univariate and multivariate linear regression analyses were used to find significant factors affecting the final visual outcome. P- value < 0.05 was statistically significant. Results: Mean age was 9.36+/- 3.58 years with a clear male preponderance (M: F=3.56:1). Penetrating trauma was the most common form. All patients were managed surgically (the most common surgery was PLA+PPC+AV+3piece IOL implantation). Conclusion: Late presentation, delayed surgery, poor BCVA at presentation, ruptured ALC, secondary glaucoma, infrequent follow-ups, posterior segment involvement, and penetrating trauma were the predictors of poor visual prognosis.
