Abstract
Study design- Prospective Randomised Control trial.
Purpose- To assess the clinical relevance of incorporating a spectral-domain OCT into the routine preoperative evaluation of patients scheduled for cataract surgery and to document the subtle macular pathologies, missed in clinical examination. Results were grouped into normal and abnormal OCT findings.
Methods-Total 260 patients recruited and equally divided into OCT and nonOCT groups. Number of cases with visual surprise documented and compared with control group.
Results- Among 130 patients of OCT group,88.7%Normal, 8%Drusen, 2.7%ERM, 0.7%PED. The preoperative visual acuity was comparable in both groups. The OCT group had better visual outcome than non-OCT group at the end of 2 weeks .
Conclusion- Preoperative OCT did not significantly alter surgical plan or postoperative visual prognosis
