FP0026 : Comparison of corneal cell morphology and function in diabetics & non-diabetics post vitrectomy

Abstract

Study design :prospective case control study done between march 2021 and may 2022Purpose To compare corneal function and morphology in diabetic and non-diabetic patients after vitrectomy factors influencing visual outcome. Methods: (BCVA), NCT, fundoscopy endothelial cell density (ECD), mean cell Area (MCA) co-efficient of variation,% hexagonal cells (HEX) and CCT done at baseline ,1and 3 months after PPV. Results: Baseline mean ECD was lower &mean CCT ,mean CV and MCA were higher and percentage of HEX was decreased in diabetics. Decrease in ECD and increase in MCA was observed in both groups after 3 months.Significant difference was noted in mean CV and mean HEX. In both groups pseudophakic patients had reduced ECD compared to phakic cases. The mean ECD in diabetics <10 years duration was higher and age more than 50 years had reduced mean ECD in both groups. Conclusion Patients with silicone oil had more endothelial loss and poor visual outcome irrespective of lens status after PPV
