Abstract
Study design: Retrospective study
Purpose: Ocular disorders in children are a cause of socioeconomic burden to the society. Hence it is necessary to know the pattern of these disorders so that they can be managed in a timely manner.
Methods: Information was obtained with regard to demographic characteristics, presenting complaints & visual acuity
Results: There were 60% male patients and 40% female patients. Mean age of study patients was 9±2 years. 60% of patients had good visual acuity, 6% patients had visual acuity of < 6/60. Refractive error was the main ocular disorder seen in 40% patients followed by allergic conjunctivitis and squint. Congenital ocular anomalies were seen in 15% patients of which congenital cataract was seen in 30% of cases.
Conclusion:Visual impairement in children can have negative impact on their quality of life. Hence, proper screening of children and timely management is important to prevent risk of developing visual impairement in these patients.
