FP2215 : The Giant Retinal Tear – The Road not taken

Abstract

A 40 years old patient presented with complaints of a sutured lacerated wound over the left eyebrow and defective vision in LE) for past 2 days. Patient gave a alleged history of RTA 2 days ago. Ophthalmic evaluation reveals BCVA in RE) 6/6 , LE) 6/12 NIG. O/e RE) Ecchymosis and periorbital edema, otherwise anterior segment normal. LE) Ecchymosis and periorbital edema present, enophthalmos present, mild ptosis present. Fundus RE) Normal, LE) Media hazy due to hemorrhage, disc and vessels normal, a giant retinal tear noted inferiorly from 3 o clock position to 7o clock position with hemorrhage. Patient was taken up for immediate LE) barrage laser around the GRT. On immediate followup patient presented with vision LE) 6/12 NIG NIP and retina remained attached. Patient reviewed after 1 month and 3 months with vision LE) 6/12 NIG with resolving hemorrhage and retina remained attached. After 6 months review patient presented with LE) 6/6 with attached retina.
