Study Design: Prospective Intervention
Purpose
We present a novel surgical technique, termed the “hammock,” for fixing a dislocated single-piece PMMA rigid IOL in situ
Methods
Two clear corneal incisions are made and cohesive OVD is filled
A sinsky hook is used to dial the IOL centrally and the haptics into the sulcus
Limited anterior vitrectomy and membranectomy is done to create space for maneuvering the IOL optic
Optic is gently pushed posteriorly, with the inferior half of the optic being captured below the peripheral fibrotic membrane and haptics acting like a hammock
OVD is replaced with BSS and the incisions hydrated
Results
The surgery was performed on 11 cases over the span of one year. One case had IOL re-dislocation whereas the rest demonstrated a stable IOL on 3 and 6 month follow up
Conclusion
IOL dislocation was successfully managed using an alternative ‘Hammock’ surgery. This method promotes stability with minimal change in effective lens position and refraction
