Abstract

We are reporting a case of 17-year-old female presenting to OPD with complaint of restricted routine activities noted by parents. Patient with Downs syndrome exhibits cognitive & communication impairment thus a detailed history was extracted from attendant followed by complete ocular examination reveling presence of cataractous changes & keratoconus in both eyes, further planned for surgical intervention to correct existing cataract & keratoconus after proper workup. Patients of downs syndrome usually develop B/L keratoconus therefore meticulous management is key factor to halt the progression of keratoconus in fellow eye. The structural instability of the cornea due to keratoconus requires careful attention to intraocular lens calculations and surgical techniques. The necessity for a multidisciplinary approach involving ophthalmologists, pediatricians, anesthesiologists & caregivers to ensure optimal outcomes in cataract surgery for patients with Down Syndrome & keratoconus is a must.
