Abstract

Study Objective: To analyze demographic characteristics of complicated cataract due to uveitis and factors influencing post-cataract surgery visual outcomes.

Methodology: A prospective intervention study was conducted at a tertiary eye care center from May 2021 to June 2022. Patients with uveitis-related complicated cataract undergoing surgery were examined pre- and post-operatively.

Results: Out of 26 patients (26 eyes), 65.38% had severely impaired visual acuity (HM+ or worse) at presentation. Surgical procedures included SICS in 84.42% and phacoemulsification in 15.38%. Intraoperative complications included posterior capsular rent in 7.69% of cases. Post-surgery, 57.69% achieved visual acuity better than 6/36. Major postoperative complications comprised postoperative uveitis in 30.76%, retained cortical matter in 11.53%, and hyphema in 7.69%.
Conclusion: Cataract surgery with IOL implantation significantly enhances visual rehabilitation in uveitic eyes.
