FP1408 : Evaluation of 3 Dimension heads up display microscope for surgical learning

Abstract

ntroduction:
It is known that there is a significant learning curve in ophthalmic surgeries.Performing cataract surgery is staple for any practising ophthalmic surgeon. One of the biggest challenges that novice surgeons face when performing cataract surgery is understanding depth and space. In this study,we evaluate the learning curve and pace at which novice surgeons perform cataract surgery on a 3 D microscope

Purpose: Evaluation of surgical learning on a 3 D microscope
Design: Prospective
Method: 17 novice surgeons with similar surgical experience were selected for this study. All surgeons performed 30-50 surgeries. Surgeons were assigned either the 3 D microscope or traditional microscope for the first half of their cases. For the second half the roles were reversed. All steps were meticulously recorded and graded according to the ICO Oscar grading for phaco. Statistical analysis is done by comparing both groups to evaluate if one group performed better.
