FP1859 : OPTIC NERVE SHEATH FENESTRATION-QUALITY OF LIFE

Abstract

Study Design: Retrospective
Purpose: To study the outcomes of optic nerve sheath fenestration (ONSF) in patients with optic
disc edema due to different etiologies.
Methods: Records of 106 eyes of 53 patients aged 16-67 year who underwent ONSF (42 Unilateral
and 9 Bilateral) for vision threatening optic disc edema were analyzed.
Results: Idiopathic intracranial hypertension was the most common etiology in majority of our
patients. In our study, we have observed stabilisation of vision post ONSF with no further
deterioration. Marginal visual improvement in other eye was observed in most cases. Few cases
showed minimal improvement in visual fields. Patients felt symptomatically better in terms of quality
of vision
