Purpose:To determine the refractive outcome of ciliary sulcus implanted IOL in posterior capsular rupture(PCR) cases.
Method:This prospective interventional study was conducted on 42 cataract patients with PCR, implanted with rigid single piece PCIOL in ciliary sulcus with +0.5 D reduced from calculated power for in the bag implantation. Postoperatively the difference in the preoperative predicted and postoperative Spherical equivalent and complications were noted.
Results: Significant difference noted in mean axial length is 22.60+0.75, preop & postop SE is 0.0124+0.01 & 0.2062+0.4, actual IOL power is 21.76+1.73 & SC IOL power is 21.18+1.76. PCR frequently noted during cortical wash 48%. BCVA 6/6 – 6/9 in 31, Striate keratopathy in 10 & iritis in 5 cases.
Conclusion:The significant refractive shift observed states the need for IOL power reduction by 0.5D if it is planned to be implanted in the ciliary sulcus for satisfactory visual outcome.
