Abstract
Creating a scleral fixated IOL from an existing foldable IOL which does not require any suturing.
Involves creating a hole in the haptic of a single piece acrylic IOL using 5/0 prolene suture needle .A 4 mm length of suture is cut to create plug with a bulbous tip created with a heat cautery(Yamane Technique) on both ends of the the single piece acrylic IOL. This modified IOL with the plugs on each haptic is folded and loaded in a butterfly cartridge .The foldable modified lens is inserted into the anterior chamber over the iris after an adequate vitrectomy is performed .Then plug is handed over and is pulled out through a scleral opening 1 mm posterior to limbus at 3 and 9o’clock.The 2 plugs hold the lens like a hammock and lie a 2 struts for the scleral fixation of the IOL.
This technique was done in 3 patients with complicated cataract surgery.
Patient achieved good vision. Sutureless technique provided with good immediate post op results also
