Abstract
A 8 year old boy presented with accidental injury to left eye while playing with umbrella. He was brought to casualty on stretcher with metal hinge of umbrella stuck to left eye.On examination, metal hinge part of the umbrella was noted subconjunctivally in nasal aspect of eye.On Bedside examination his vision was counting fingers>3m,globe appeared intact,IOP digitally normal.Posterior fundus to extent visible was found to be normal. The patient underwent wound exploration under general anesthesia and the impacted hinge of umbrella was meticulously externalised. The foreign body had penetrated nasally with superior extension to frontal bone around 8-10mm,with no evidence of intra-ocular penetration. In cases of ocular injuries with large foreign bodies,a high index of suspicion must be kept for possibility of intraocular penetration, intraorbital structural damage, fractures due to force of impact and rarely intracranial extension.
