FP1577 : A big Masquerade-Case of lower lid Sebaceous cell carcinoma

Abstract

Purpose-To reiterate the fact that it masquerades an innocuous mass. A high need for suspicion required.
Methods-A 70 year old female patient presented with foreign body sensation and heaviness in the lower lid of the right eye causing generalized discomfort since 6months. On history, the mass progressed from pea size to the current stage. Vision unaffected with 6/9 on snellens visual acuity testing. On slit lamp examination the mass measured 5mm*3mm and skin over the growth was keratinized surrounded by feeder vessels. Patient taken for wide excision and primary closure. The excised tissue was sent for histopathological analysis which came out to be positive for sebaceous cell carcinoma.
Results-Primary pathology is resolved with optimal cosmesis. Patient is relieved of the discomfort.
Conclusion-It can be observed if smaller. But intervention required if the size is big enough to cause discomfort.
