Abstract

BACKGROUND: Congenital amniontocele is an uncommon consequence of Congenital Naso – lacrimal duct obstruction(NLDO) in newborns. It is usually present at birth or sometimes can occur soon after birth. If the congenital amniontocele has an intranasal extension and if it's large, bilateral can lead to respiratory distress in newborns.MATERIAL:One day old newborn examined in NICU was found to have Right congenital amniontocele and was treated conservatively with Topical antibiotics and crigler's massage.The baby was reviewed after 1 week and the congenital amniontocele was completely resolved.
CONCLUSION: From the current case it is evident that early identification of the congenital amniontocele and it’s early management with Topical antibiotics and Crigler’s lacrimal sac massage is crucial in preventing complications like Dacryocystitis and cellulitis which mandate surgical interventions like Dacryocystorhinostomy and NLD probing.
