FP1557 : Analysis Of Placing Prophylactic Encircling Scleral Buckle With Primary Repair In Open globe injury.

Abstract

Aim:Evaluate result of prophylactic scleral buckle placement at primary repair of open-globe injury posterior segment and to define factors that lead to functional failure.Design: Retrospective, noncomparative,interventional series.185injuries.Three important prognostic factors evaluated:(1)visual grade(2) zone of injury(3) mechanism of injury.Outcomes of interest:(1)visual outcome(2)anatomical outcome(3)subsequent RD(4)number of subsequent surgeries(5)factors leading to functional failure.Age 25.9 yrs,160M, 25 F.Initial VA<20/300.Posterior extent laceration 7.22mm.23( 12.43%) ruptures,120(64.86%)penetrating,17(9.1%)perforating,25(13.51%)intraocular foreign body.14(7.5%) had clear media.Final VA 20/200(p=0.7).Visual grade1 50(27%)p= 0.0, grade 2 33(17.83%) p=0.7, grade 3 21(11.35%)p=0.0, grade 4 58(31.3%) p=0.0,grade 5 23(12.4%)p=0.19.Visual improvement 3.9.Subsequent RD 6(8.6%).Macular damage 20(10.81%),RDPVR 13(7.02%),optic nerve injury11( 5.9%).No complications because of buckle.
