FP1691 : Impact of Glaucoma on Vision in Children after Blunt Trauma: An Ocular Trauma Score based Study

Abstract

Design: Cross-sectional, analytical
Purpose: To analyze the accuracy of ocular trauma score (OTS) in estimating vision after close globe injury in children who developed acute traumatic glaucoma
Methods: All children (<18 years) who developed acute traumatic glaucoma after a close globe injury were included in the study. In all patients, OTS was evaluated at the first visit along with a detailed examination. Patients were grouped into five categories according to OTS.
Results: A total of 124 patients were included with a mean age of 11.4+/3 years. Mean intraocular pressure at 1st visit was 38.3+/12.1 mmHg. Mean vision at presentation was 1.84+/1.04 logMAR, which improved to 0.81 after 6 months. Total patients with OTS grades 2,3,4,5 were 13,75,26,10 respectively. Significantly lower number of children could achieve vision >20/40 than noted by OTS.
Conclusion: Traumatic glaucoma in children had a negative impact on visual outcomes. OTS may overestimate visual recovery in such cases.
