FP1523 : DETECTION OF POSTERIOR CAPSULE INTEGRITY IN POSTERIOR POLAR CATARACT USING SWEPT SOURCE OCT

Abstract

Posterior polar cataracts (PPC) have higher propensity for posterior capsule rupture (PCR). One hundred thirteen eyes of 106 patients with PPC were included that underwent pre-operative biometry using IOL master 700 followed by phacoemulsification between November 2022 to August 2023. Posterior capsule integrity was categorized as intact or dehiscent using IOL master 700 OCT images which was co-related with intra-operative event. Out of the 99 eyes with intact PC (posterior capsule) on imaging, 95 eyes (96%) underwent uneventful surgery. Remaining four (4%) eyes had PCR. PC dehiscence was identified in thirteen eyes (68.4%) on IOL master 700 OCT, all of which had PCR (p<0.001). One (7.1%) eye had no complication which was identified as dehiscent on imaging. IOL master 700 has a sensitivity of 92.9%, specificity of 96%, positive predictive value of 76.5% and negative predictive value of 99%. IOL master 700 can be used to identify eyes at high risk of PCR during pre-operative biometry
