FP1262 : CLINICAL PROFILE AND SURGICAL OUTCOME OF TRAUMATIC NASOLACRIMAL DUCT OBSTRUCTION

Abstract

Aim: To evaluate clinical profile and management in patients with traumatic NLDO
Methods: Retrospective analysis of 24 patients with traumatic NLDO at a tertiary eye care in Tamil Nadu over 2 years. Patient demographics, details of trauma, clinical features, type of surgery, follow-up and outcomes were evaluated.
Results:26 eyes were studied, 20 were males and mean age was 37.69years(5-74). Most common cause was road traffic accidents(RTA)(53.84%). Most common injury was nasoorbitoethmoidal fractures(64%). 18 eyes were investigated with computed tomography-dacryocystography (CT-DCG). 22eyes were treated with external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) with 23.07% and without 61.53% silicon intubation and 4 with dacryocystectomy. Follow up period was 3 to 12months. Success was recorded in 20 eyes(76.9%).
Conclusions: Main cause of traumatic NLDO is Nasoorbitoethmoidal fracture caused from RTA. CT-DCG is a useful imaging modality in surgical planning. DCR gives good surgical outcome.
