Abstract
• Study design: Case Control Study
• Purpose: Evaluation of cognitive impairment in POAG patients
• Methods:70 POAG patients(cases) and 70 age matched healthy controls underwent detailed ophthalmic evaluation and focused cognitive domain tests for cognitive impairment (CI) including Addenbrooke Cognitive Examination, PGI Memory Scale test, Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Go-Nogo task, Trail Making Test.
• Results: Age, gender and visual acuity were comparable. We found significantly lower scores on ACE, PMS test (p<0.001), more error on WCST and GNG (p<0.05), more time taken in TMTA (p<0.05) in cases indicating CI. There was a correlation of CI with visual field and cortisol levels.(p<0.05) and visual field with cortisol level(p<0.05).
• Conclusion: We found cognitive impairment in POAG patients as compared to controls. CI was correlated with mean deviation on visual fields and endogenous cortisol levels.
