Abstract
PURPOSE- To present a case series of 3 patients with various intraorbital foreign bodies(FB)and to emphasize on the importance of imaging and timely intervention.
METHODS-Case 1-A 52 year old male with alleged h/o assault with a pen .Imaging- large FB in medial canthal region.Case 2-A15 year old boy presented with RE proptosis, hypotropia and a discharging sinus with lobulated mass. Imaging -a radiodense FB at orbital floor with pseudoaneurysm of right ICA .Case 3- A 23 year old male with injury to RE while working with chisel and hammer. Imaging showed FB in superolateral part of eye .
RESULTS -All cases were managed surgically and FBs were removed, except in 2nd case, which was referred to a neurosurgeon due to traumatic pseudoaneurysm .In case1-the FB found was the anterior part of a pen along with metal tip, removed in toto. In case 3- the FB was an iron piece-11×4 mm long, removed successfully.
CONCLUSION-Imaging and timely intervention are necessary in cases of suspected FBs
