FP1032 : Title: Innovative strategies to manage large corneal perforations in absence of corneal donor tissue

Abstract

Purpose: To report outcomes of innovation strategies for emergency management of large central and peripheral corneal perforations.

Methods: We describe the management outcomes of 7 patients who presented with complicated corneal perforations and were managed on an emergency basis using preserved allogenic scleral tissue/ SMILE derived lenticule, due to non-availability of corneal graft.
Results: The mean size of corneal perforation was 3.5+1.13 mm (range 2-6 mm). Two perforations were peripheral, 5 central. 4 eyes had a sterile melt, 2 were infective and 1 post traumatic. Lamellar allogenic scleral patch graft with or without amniotic membrane was done in 4 eyes, glue or suture assisted application of SMILE derived lenticule in 3 eyes. Globe integrity was preserved in all eyes at 2 months follow up.
Conclusion: Preserved allogenic sclera and SMILE derived lenticule can be successfully applied as an emergency globe and sight saving procedure in corneal perforations.
