Abstract
Objectives: To assess the prevalence of retinal diseases among patients at a tertiary ophthalmic clinic in Kolar District.
Methods: From Aug 22-23, A cross-sectional hospital study was conducted involving 6721 subjects. They underwent comprehensive ophthalmic examination including medical history, vision, anterior and posterior segment examination. Retinal diseases were analyzed under factors like age, sex, systemic condition, and specific retinal diseases.
Results: 693 (10.3%) had retinal diseases, with mean age of 54 . DR and DME at (30.8%). Dry ARMD at 16.1%, and HTN retinopathy at 13.9%. Blindness in 37.2%, severe visual impairment in 6.9%, and 29.7% retained normal vision. 56% (389) had systemic diseases, with 24% having DM, 20% HTN, and 12% having both.
Conclusion: Enhancing outreach and remote hospital access is essential for early diagnosis and treatment. Collaborative management of hypertension and diabetes by physicians can notably alleviate the burden of DR and DME.
