FP2775 : Management strategy and outcomes in recurrent Retinoblastoma

Abstract

Study design:Retrospective case series
Purpose-To review the clinical profile and management strategies and outcomes in recurrent retinoblastoma (RB)
Methods- Charts were reviewed for demographic and tumor details. Outcome variables- local recurrence, eye and life salvage.
Results- 22 eyes of 18 pts(M:F, 2:1), who presented at mean age of 25(1-156)months were diagnosed with solid tumor recurrence on prior scar/calcium (13,59%), vitreous seeds recurrence (5, 22%) and new tumors (5, 22%) at mean interval of 7 (2-30) months since remission. Additional systemic chemotherapy (14,64%), intra-arterial chemo (3,14%), Intravitreal chemo (5, 22%), plaque brachytherapy (1, 5%) in addition to focal thermotherapy and cryotherapy was used. Ten eyes (46%) needed to be enucleated while 12 (54%) were salvaged at mean follow up of 36 (10-91)months without any mortality.
Conclusion-Recurrent RB management is challenging. We achieved 54% eye salvage and 100% life salvage with customised management plan.
