Abstract
To study the clinical profile, complications, treatment and visual prognosis of sarcoid uveitis in the south Indian population using the revised International Workshop for Ocular Sarcoidosis (IWOS) criteria.
Retrospective observational study
Records of 51 patients diagnosed to have sarcoidosis were analyzed and grouped in accordance with the revised IWOS criteria into probable, presumed and confirmed ocular sarcoidosis.
A female preponderance was observed, most common symptom was defective vision (86.27%), most common clinical sign was anterior chamber cells (88.29%), anterior uveitis was seen in 40.42% patients. Chorioretinal scarring was seen in 20.21% of cases. A clinically significant improvement in best corrected visual acuity was seen on follow up visits after initiating treatment.
Sarcoid uveitis remains a difficult disease to diagnose in India, thus the application of the revised IWOS criteria can help in early detection and treatment of the condition.
