FP0542 : Evaluation of visual functions and OCT parameters in ethambutol toxic neuropathy.

Abstract

Methods: This was a prospective study of 50 patients diagnosed with ethambutol toxic neuropathy presenting within 1 month of onset of visual loss. Best-corrected visual acuity, color vision, contrast sensitivity, Humphrey visual field analysis, visual evoked response and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography for GCIPL, RNFL and PPMB thickness were assessed at onset and 3 and 6 months from onset of symptoms.
Results: Mean age of the patients was 40.72±12.08 years with a male: female ratio of 29:21. On follow-up, visual acuity improved (from log mar 1 to 0.5) (p<0.0001), and mean deviation improved (from -13.24 to -4.9) (p<0.005). Significant visual improvement was seen in 69% of patients. Significant reduction of temporal pRNFL(from 72.12 ± 21.80 to 41.41 ± 12.42), PPMB(from 51.61 ± 15.93 to 30.99 ± 10.07), and inner nasal mGC-IPL(from 31.59 ± 10.72 to 23.65 ± 6.60) was observed at 6 months (p<0.0001 for all).
