Abstract
Aims: Orbital fat prolapse (FP) is an acquired lesion that occurs due to anterior herniation of intraconal fat due to weakness of Tenon’s capsule and intermuscular septae due to aging, trauma or surgery. In contrast, dermolipoma (DL) is a congenital choristoma. Both FP and DL present as fatty epibulbar masses in the lateral corners of the eye. We aim to describe their similarities and demonstrate the crucial differences between the two in order to guide appropriate surgical management. Methods: Through this video, we demonstrate specific clinical features of DL versus subconjunctival FP, intra-operative findings that differentiate the two, appropriate surgical steps in the excision of each as well as the histopathological features of both the entities. Results: A videographic demonstration of various clinical aspects of FP and DL is made. Conclusion: Clear understanding of clinicopathological and surgical aspects of both FP and DL will help achieve optimal surgical outcome.
