Abstract

Intraosseous hemangiomas are uncommon benign lesions of vascular origin occurring in the vertebral body and skull, with rare presentation in the orbit. We report a 20 yr old lady with swelling over the left inferotemporal orbital rim.

Examination revealed a hard, non-mobile, painless bony swelling over the left Zygoma. CT images displayed a sunburst pattern of radiating trabeculae in the lesion, suggestive of intraosseous hemangioma. She underwent excision with adequate clear bony margins. Histopathological examination showed benign angiomatous ectatic & cavernous thin-walled blood vessels; confirming the radiological diagnosis.

Management options include surgical excision, sclerotherapy and radiotherapy. Surgical en-bloc excision with marginal resection of healthy bone provides excellent outcome. Chances of malignant transformation is rare and recurrences are uncommon. In our patient, there was no recurrence was evident upto five years of follow up with an optimal cosmetic outcome.
