FP0561 : Epidemiology and characteristics of ocular and adnexal tumors in a North-East India

Abstract

Study design: Hospital based retrospective study of 2 years duration.
Purpose: To know the profile of patients with ocular and adnexal tumours presenting at a tertiary eye care institute in northeast India
Methods: The clinical history, site of involvement and pathological diagnoses were retrieved from ocular pathology registers. All specimens were fixed, processed and stained. Immunohistochemistry was carried out where ever indicated to come to a final diagnosis
Results: In 103 specimens that were included in this study, 38 were malignant while 65 were benign. Male preponderance was seen. Orbital cysts were the most common ocular tumor. NHL was the most common cause of malignant intraocular tumor. The average age of patients of benign tumors was 38.8 years and malignant intraocular tumors was 55.9 years.
Conclusion: Most of the diagnosed benign ocular tumors were orbital cysts in which dermoid was the most common. NHL was the most commonly seen malignant intraocular tumor.
