Abstract
Purpose: To assess the long term efficacy of customised toric IOL's in cataract patients with high corneal astigmatism, who underwent phacoemulsification. Design: Retrospective study Methods: Twelve eyes of nine patients with high corneal astigmatism who underwent phacoemulsification were included. Phacoemulsification with implantation of customised toric IOL’s was done in all patients. Outcomes included UDVA, BCVA , manifest refraction, and IOL stability at last follow up. Results The mean follow up time was 4.72 months. At the last follow up visit, there was a significant improvement (preoperative vs postoperative) of UDVA (1.06±0.48 vs 0.368±0.40 logMAR; p<0.05), cylindrical refraction (-3.10± 2.51 vs -1.08± 1.10; p<0.05). IOL was stable at 180 degree axis in 100% eyes. Conclusion Customized toric IOL’s are a safe option in patients of cataract with high astigmatism due to corneal ectasia or post keratoplasty, with effective and predictable outcomes
