Abstract

Congenital cataracts are one of the major causes of preventable blindness. Out of these, two thirds are bilateral. Many present with a strong family history. This is a case of 15 years old female, known case of Nephrotic syndrome since 4 years, currently on steroid treatment for 1 year. Patient presented to ophthalmology OPD with chief complaint of diminution of vision in both eyes since 6 years which was gradually progressive and painless in nature. There were no associated symptoms. Her father and her elder brother were operated for cataract in their early 20s. On examination patient was found to have best corrected visual acuity of 6/12 and 6/18 with IOP of 14 and 15.2 in right and left eyes respectively. On SLE three different kinds of cataract were found in both eyes namely sutural, snowflake and cortical cataract which were not associated with steroid use but are congenital. Patient was advised cataract surgery once she was systemically stable and regular monthly follow ups
